Dear Colleagues,
                this note is to draw your attention to the forthcoming

      INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ON LHC PHYSICS AND DETECTORS

      at JINR Dubna,  19 - 21 July 1995.

This Symposium will be the first major LHC review since its approval.
The status of both the machine and the experimental programme will be
covered.

Besides an overview talk, a full half day will be devoted to CMS. The
programme for the CMS session will include the following talks:

            R. Castaldi     Tracking
            J.L. Faure      ECAL
            V. Kryshkin     HCAL
            I. Golutvin     Mons
            W. Smith        DAQ/Trigger
            N. Stepanov     Physics (Higgs, ...)
            A. Starodumov   Physics (B-physics)

You will find hereafter the first bulletin of the Symposium and you
are welcome to send your application to the Symposium Secretariat with
copy to the CMS Secretariat (Marica@cernvm.cern.ch).

With respect to the agreement between CERN Director General
Professor C.H. Llewellyn Smith and JINR Director Professor
V.G. Kadyshevsky on the International Symposium,
"LHC Physics and Detectors" will be held from
19 to 21 July 1995 in Dubna, Russian Federation.


The preliminary programme includes the following topics:

Programmes connected to the projects ATLAS, CMS, ALICE and LHC-b.

The Symposium Proceedings will be published by JINR.

ATTENDANCE

A total of about 200 participants will attend the Symposium.
Participation will be by personal invitation only. For invitation one
must apply to Symposium Secretariat at Dubna or at CERN (see below).

The Symposium working days are 19-21 July 1995. However, it is expected
that most of the  participants will arrive on Tuesday 18 July.

When applying, please indicate:

The registration fee, of US$ 450 for the participants and US$ 150 for the
accompanying persons, includes:

- bus transportation from Moscow airport or railway station to Dubna and back,
- hotel accommodation and meals,
- refreshments, welcome party, Symposium  dinner,
- a bus excursion for accompanying persons,
- a copy of the Symposium proceedings.


VISAS

To obtain a Russian entry visa in time, the participants should send
their personal information, including passport number, to the Symposium
Secretariat by e-mail or by telex/fax. Upon receipt of their personal
data, the JINR Directorate sends the participants a telex with which
they should apply to the Russian Consulate for their visas.
Be careful to check that the visa should be valid for both Moscow
and Dubna. Those invited to visit Institutes in other cities are
kindly asked to send to the Symposium Secretariat a copy of the
invitation for the corresponding visa to be obtained.


ACCOMMODATION

Participants will be accommodated at the Hotel Dubna, situated within
walking distance of the Symposium location, i.e. the Conference Hall.


TRANSPORTATION

No later than three working days before arrival, participants wishing
to be met should inform the Organizing Committee by e-mail, telex or fax
of the exact flight number (or train number), date and time of arrival.
Outside the airport, the car (or bus) will be parked in the fenced-off
area opposite the airport exit and will be marked 'Dubna'
on the windscreen. The Organizing Committee can be contacted from the
airport by telephone 926.22.52 (during office hours 9.00-13.00, 14.00-18.00),
926.22.74 (registration in the Hotel during the Symposium).
There is also a regular train service to Dubna from Savelovsky Station
in Moscow (the nearest Metro Station is Savelovskaya).


ABOUT THE TOWN

Dubna is a quiet and pleasant town, lying 132 km north of Moscow on the
picturesque banks of the great Russian river Volga. A 1 to 2 hour trip
brings you to Moscow, the capital of Russia, to Sergiev Posad,
the Russian Orthodox centre with its 500-year old Trinity Monastery,
to Fedoskino, the centre of the traditional Russian lacquer box craft,
and to many other places of interest in this old Russian territory.
