Subject: US CMS Education Coordinator Search
Dear Colleagues,
In the decade long time it will take to build CMS, followed by the decade(s)
of utilization of the detector, we have an extraordinary opportunity to
have outreach to the university and larger community. An example is in the
networking which we need, but which is also a priority item in the academic
and commercial groups in which we are immersed.
Recently we have taken the step of adding a task to the US CMS MB - the
"Education Office". At present there is in the associated box a name - Marge
Bardeen of the Fermilab Education Office - who will provide expertise and
experience in educational outreach. However, we need a physicist to be the
"US CMS Education Coordinator" to sit on the US CMS MB and carry the full
responsibility for outreach efforts by US CMS. This job requires someone with
the vision to truly mount an outreach effort for US CMS.
I am asking everyone in US CMS to consider if they wish to be a candidate
for this task. Please respond to me ASAP, and I will make this post an action
item at the next US CMS MB meeting. In my view this job is crucially
important to US CMS, in that it is our "interface" to society as a whole, most
immediately in its academic aspect.
Cheers, Dan
